The Cries of the Trees

Saki Taniuchi
Kochi, Japan / Age 8

In a world plagued by relentless heatwaves, trees have begun to suffer adverse effects.
The once-beautiful trees on the mountainsides are withering, leading to a loss of flood control capacity, leaving people struggling with disasters and water shortages.

Judge's Comment

The overall composition of the artwork is well-structured, yet it shows a willingness to challenge the status quo and move towards the next creative endeavor in a balanced way. Additionally, the depiction of the wind is also remarkable.

Breaking through the Present

Breaking through the current situation in 2023, I hope that my favorite insects will still be thriving in 2030, with this heartfelt wish.

Judge's Comment

The relationship between the collaged newspaper cutouts and the concept underpinning the artwork is very well executed. The artwork raises questions, and I look forward to the next piece. Please keep creating.
